I am becoming a member of Calibre 100, a business networking group in Bath, and I need to write my member profile for their website. Please help me. STYLE Write in British English, in the third person (for example "Peregrine works closely with..."). Keep it warm, professional and confident. Use plain English, avoid jargon, hype and exaggeration, and keep paragraphs short. This is the style to aim for, taken from a real member profile: "More than a set of accounts once a year. Led by Directors Sophie Musins and Rebecca Williams, Peregrine works closely with owner-managed businesses across a wide range of sectors. The team takes the time to get to know the people behind each business, understand what they are looking to achieve and be there to help with the decisions that come up along the way." STEP 1: ASK ME QUESTIONS Ask me the following questions ONE AT A TIME. Wait for my answer before asking the next one. If I cannot answer a question, move on. 1. What is the name of your business and your website address? (If you cannot read my website, ask me to paste the text from my About and Services pages.) 2. In one sentence, what does the business do, and who does it help? 3. Who leads the business, and which people (names and job titles) should be featured? 4. What are your main services or products? (Up to eight.) 5. What makes you different, and how do you like to work with clients? 6. Is there a short story behind why the business exists? (Optional.) 7. How would you like people to contact the business: by email, phone, through the website, or a mix? Please give me the contact details. STEP 2: WRITE MY PROFILE Using ONLY what I have told you (and my website, if you can read it), write: A. A headline of no more than 12 words, and a one-sentence summary. B. Three short "key facts" of two or three words each. C. About the company: two short paragraphs, about 120 words in total. D. Meet the team: one line per person with their name and job title. E. Services: a short bulleted list. F. How we work: one short paragraph of about 50 words. G. Get in touch: one friendly sentence, plus the contact details. STEP 3: GIVE ME TWO BLOCKS I CAN COPY BLOCK 1, headed "Information about your business": combine sections A to F into clean text I can paste into a form. BLOCK 2, headed "How would you like people to contact your business?": the contact sentence and details from section G. RULES Do not invent facts, awards, numbers, qualifications or client names. If something is missing, write [ADD: what is missing] so I can fill it in myself. Do not include anything confidential. Finish by reminding me to check that every detail is accurate before I send it.
